Incidentally I watched Altman’s 3 Women not so long ago which I enjoyed immensely, such a delight, but apart from the name it doesn’t have anything to do with these three little puzzles you may enjoy:
1. A brick falls from the top of the shaft and at the same moment the elevator starts moving. Is the damage to the elevator larger if the elevator is going up or if it is going down (with the same speed)?
2. With the bottom hole closed, an empty barrel is filled in 8 min. The faucet turned off and a full barrel is emptied through the hole in 9 min. Now both the hole and the faucet are open. How long does it take to fill an empty barrel?
3. A transport balloon is filled with gas twice as light as the original (say helium is replaced with hydrogen). How much more can the balloon lift?
